    Hi All,

Just had to share my good news, I just passed the 640-801 CCNA!

I thought I'd failed, but scraped through with 862/1000, but I suppose a pass is still a pass!

    Planning & Designing 91%
    Implementation & Operation 93%
    Troubleshooting 63%
    Technology 79%

Thanks to MarkN and Pete01 for giving me direction for the final push study-wise, as I was in a bit of a studying rut a couple of weeks before the exam.

If anyone is interested, I used the following:-

Sybex CCNA Jumpstart (Excellent as a pre-study guide, if you're new to all this - like me!)
Todd Lammle's Sybex CCNA Study Guide (Easiest to understand)
McGraw Hill Osbourne CCNA Study Guide (More in-depth detail)
Testout CBT Labs, Course and Exam Simulation (The best all round in my opinion)
A home lab in my loft to play around with connection and configuration (Great way to learn)
www.mindtechcom.com (A useful cisco kit rack rental website for configuration and troubleshooting practice - only 50p/hour!)

I also attended an evening college course for 3 hours a week over 8 weeks.
The course was relatively cheap but I would recommend spending the time and money studying from home with some decent material rather than attending a 'crash course' which didn't teach me much. It was good in the way that you could share knowledge with the other students though.

    Anyway, enough of my rambling!

    All the best,

    Cactus

Congratulations on getting your CCNA. It's the only test of all the ones I've taken that I walked into with sweaty palms....

    Thanks for the congrats!

I am now self-studying the A+ in order to help my job prospects back into IT/Telecomms.

A lot of job hunting is now required, still it beats nights of endless studying of OSPF, access lists et al!

I know what you mean, instead of studying upstairs on the pc,
I'll have to stay downstairs with the Missus tonight, probably watching some irksome reality tv show!

    Cheers Simon!

The first exam I've taken and passed in over 12 years - a very nerve-racking experience!

Hopefully this result will put an end to a recurring dream I have about failing my A Levels...

Really well done, cactus - it's not that often we get to celebrate a CCNA pass, so cheers for inspiring all those on Cisco tracks at the moment, and to all our Members in general. I don't think there's any better feeling on CF than when someone posts news of a pass - regardless of what cert or at what level.

I guess you might read this after that irksome reality TV show is over !! :biggrin

    Cheers everybody for the congratulations!

I forgot to mention that the first material I read was 'CCNA Jumpstart' by Sybex - A fantastic book to read if (like me) you have to start from scratch, in my case I wasn't au fait with any of the endless buzz words and acronyms.

To be honest, I didn't even know the difference between a router and a switch before reading this book.

Twobellies - I'll PM you the college info as I wouldn't want to rubbish them in public!

    All the best!
