    Hi every1,
I am studying Computer Science (BSc hons) at Aston Uniersity. Currenly I am working as a System Administrator (1 year student placement) and planning 2 complete CCNA during this year.

Can any1 tell me, firstly if this 10/12 months are enough for completing CCNA certification?

How good is this qualification for geting a job? is a job guranteed? will this qualification be enaugh apart from my BSc certification, or I need satisfactory BSc result as well (i m worried because i am expecting a 2.2)? how much sud be the starting salary?

If any1 can help, that wud be great. thanx

CCNA and a BSc ought to help secure a job, but equally important is professionalism, dedication and good grammar and presentation.

Sadly, from wot I seen u got to praktise a little on de later

Seriously though, to be taken seriously in the job market you got to polish up on the presentation and grammar etc. That includes online communication to agencies etc...

    Hi,

I do not have a degree but I do have a few certs and can vouch for what the other guy here highlighted...

No IT qualification in the world will get you a guaranteed job...

    They just do not exist...

Without sounding harsh there are lots of people out there with lots of certs nowadays and you with a degree and CCNA will be no different....

    But...!

Thats not to say there is not a job out there for you there are plenty of jobs to go round, but more and more are looking at people with a combination of certs/degrees/experience...

Also although your qualifications will be good, you must remember that (As far as I can remember) Computer Science degrees are very much software programming based (C++, C, PHP etc?? correct me if I am wrong) whereas a CCNA is very much hands on network technician stuff, they are fairly different areas. Whilst this means you have a broad set of knowledge, you may have trouble getting in somewhere because you have not specialised... (A problem which I myself am currently having)..

As for your CCNA question... I am about to take the exam for Semesters 1 & 2 (The first half of the CCNA) and I was on a 2 week course...

The whole CCNA course for me is 4 weeks intensive, so 10-12 months should be easy for you as you already have IT experience...

As for salary, depends where you go, check reed.co.uk

So thats my 3 pence worth

dont believe everything you read made, you can expect to require atleast 5 years experiance before you hit that money

most certs are not entry level, so you can expect salary predictions that go with them to assume the experiance most people would have before attempting them to go hand in hand with the cert itself, doing the cert first isnt a shortcut
