    Guys i have a dilemma,

    it has 2x 2.8ghz xeon cpu & 4gb ram. now i also have a 2008 R2 std edt machine.

Can i run this on vmware on my host 2k3 o/s as my cpu's arent real x64

Dont see why not. You dont have to use 64bit hardware for virtual environments.

    Is this for testing\lab work?

yeah its for lab work & testing, running tired of need to license o/s's and make sure they stay on there and validate etc as well or roll back to snapshots.

    What processor do you have??

W2K8 R2 is 64bit only if your trying to run it on a 32bit host OS as a guest take note of the following

    VMware quote

So yes you can run a 64bit guest os in VM on a 32bit OS host, however, it is dependent of the capabilities of your hardware, features that are associated with 64bit architectures.

Also Note - not all 64 bit processors will work for a 64 bit guest OS (look at compatibility list)

there is also a utility from vmware called vmware-guest64check that will test your hardware compatibility.

    Merry xmas all,

Well as the title suggests this was an epic fail, the Xeon CPu's in my poweredge 1600sc are 2x 2.8 ghz and are only 32bit systems capable they reckon they are 64bit capable , but i suspect it's for an older cpu architecture not the x64 standard.

When I do run VMware it says that it's not compatible with my cpu.

So its a bit pants , i'll be sticking with x86 2k8 non r2 for now and i can buy some real x64 capable boxes later on.
Im getting a bit annoyed with dell kit as of recently

    Stupid poweredge !
