Yeah, I noticed that too when I read about you recently getting the job that I want :P Can't find any junior pentest jobs around here. I've been looking for companies in manc which do security, but there's hardly any tbh.:(

Anyway I'm gonna go for the 291 end of august, get this MCSA out of the way.. then I'll probably do Sec+ for a change then get back on 299. My goal to get all of them done before Dec:rendeer

You have the 291 this week don't you? 298 after that?

Funny enough just 2 months ago there were some junior pen tester jobs in leeds on cwjobs. . . so they do come up from time to time.

As you say deffo get your MCSA: Sec out the way first before applying tho IMO. I'm blitzing my studies, 30+ hours a week on top of work to get the MCSE: Sec out the way then its CEH time

291 and 299 exams this coming thursday but I might wimp out and move them to friday. I'm sick of travelling to Wigan to take exams so doin one after another same day . . . lot of overlap to be honest tho.

I'll probably go for 298 mate your right. I got sent on a fastrack official MS course that covered 293 and 298 in June so once 298's passed (fingers crossed!) I'll do 293 and finally 294. I'm picking up momentum now and finding more and more overlap with my studies making it slightly easier, slightly.

Good idea getting your Security+ out the way next. You'll love their questions, much shorter and direct I found, so a welcome break from the essay practise questions MS do

Yeah, I'm gonna need to show them on paper that I have certified 'job' experience in security to be able to get an interview to tell them my ACTUAL experience ;p

I know the role you're going now into is penetration testing, but should you want to go into networking or some other job, apparently some employers don't like the look of the term 'Certified Ethical Hacker' lol.. So Mile2 made a new cert called Certified Network Defense Architect (C|NDA), which is exactly the same syllabus/questions. So you might want have a think bout that..
I've looked at the syllabus for the CEH and tbh it doesn't look too taxing. Not read about how the exam is though, I hope it'll be like CompTIA's :D!

Awesome, didn't realise you were ready for the 299 aswell! Good luck with both. I've got a few projects I need to finish first before I can get on with my studying.. but I'm aiming to blitz out those certs just as fast as you ;D

Yeah I've checked Mile2 out and will probably get their CPTS at some stage. You absolutely right about the CEH, its the word hacker they don't like but I personally think this would only happen at certain companies. If an employer pulled me on it I'd decide right there that their offer isn't for me. You want to be working for the kind of firms who aren't so silly to be honest.

Oh yeah mate, ready to go on the 299. I've studied since feb for 291 but decided to take a look at 299 a month ago and decided as there's so much overlap, IPSec, CA's, I'd go for it and I feel ready to take it on. 291, although I've studied all I can, I'll never feel confident about I don't think. Fingers crossed. Jim

**Edit: If you would work in London a certain Gov agency can open a lot of doors for your career. Not much good if you want to stay in the north west tho. Just an idea/option

Grr, you're making me wonder if I should do the 299 before Sec+ now!

I would gladly work in London if I could! I went a year or so ago for the first time (sheltered life n that :P).. I stayed in Windsor and couldn't believe how different the south is to up here. I don't think I've specialised enough to be able to get a decent job down there (and be able to afford a roof over the head!) at this point. But yeah, eventually I think I might move down there for a few years.

Sorry mate. See how you feel cos come to think of it both 291 and Sec+ would help you pass 299 IMO. More so 291 but Sec+ would help as it covers Kerberos and authentication quite a lot.

Right am off for a big massive roast and to give my eye balls a rest. Good luck mate. Jim

I remember the page 'Japaneze seizure robots' from back in 2001/2002, did make you feel quite queesy.

Infact just found the page: http://www.frostbot.com/SR.htm
That then spawned the pages which were black and white instead of colour (repeated faster), then with javascript to make the browser move so people couldn't close it, then more js with a loop of opening more windows of the page, then putting gay porn pics on there, then looping that old wav file which at 300% volume said 'HEY EVERYBODY, I'M LOOKING AT GAY PORNO!'

ahh, the good old days :biggrin
