Exactly this. CertForums doesn't tolerate braindumping OR piracy, so if you don't want to hear the truth about those things, this isn't likely the place for you.

Yeah ill stick to the genuine stuff, i didnt mean that comment in a bad way, we all have hard financial times and i didnt know it was illegal software, obvioulsy the price is very cheap but i dont want to fall at the first hurdle.

I dont condone illegal selling of software and i take that comment back

    Hello to all you geeks,

I'm new to this wonderful forum. I hope the following will help some of you in your study for the A+ exam.
I have passed my exam mid july on the first attempt.

Secret of passing: throw in some good ol’ work ethic in your study. Nature will reward you; 100 % guaranteed.

I have no IT background. I am a home PC user. Not too long time ago I cleaned the inside of my pc with a home vacuum cleaner  . Very interested in pc’s.

Impression of the exam: easy, if you know your stuff.
I have found the 602 exam more “difficult” than the 601

    Some general advice:

*stay calm. don’t panic when the first questions make you think that you are only suitable for flipping hamburgers at MccD. There will follow a lot of questions that are easy ( if you know your stuff).

*read the questions carefuly, many times the answer lies in the question itself.

*602 had a lot of customer related questions. Look in the answers for words like “apologize”, “ask permission” etc. Never use an accusational term, even if you think he/she is a bigger …hole than your mother in law. Think about how you would like to be treated in a similar situation.

*Take a good look at Windows Xp paths (e.g. how to get to system info etc.)

*if you are new to the IT field don’t use any of these 1000 + bibles as your main study tool; use it as reference book.

*practice exams, practice exams and practice exams. Take it from me, without these you are gonna fail. Don’t memorize answers but understand stuff.

*if your mother tongue is not English you get a bonus of 30 minutes, bringing the total time for taking the exam to 120 minutes.

This is what I have used to prepare myself (did self study only):

    *Cbt Nuggets Vids/ James Conrad
very good; Conrad is a gifted teacher.
Excellent tool to understand the fundamentals of computers and the A+ stuff if you are new to the IT field

    *Sybex complete study guide
1000+ page bible. Excellent book but not suitable if you are new to the IT field; I have used it as a reference book

    *Mike Meyers passport.
Good. Gives only the stuff you need to know. Stuff is often treated superficialy. Use a 1000+ bible to make things clear for you or do some googling.

    *Cliffs TestPrep/ Toby Skandier
In the beginning I was very enthusiastic about this book but the more I used it the more depressed I became. The book unnecessarily made me question whether I was adequately prepared for the actual certification tests.
The format and difficulty of the questions bear no resemblance with the questions on the real exam. The questions are much, much too difficult.

*Exam cram A+ practice questions/Charles Brooks
I cannot praise this book highly enough. The difficulty and format of the questions resemble those on the actual exams. Outstanding explanation of the answers. This is one of the best books I have used.

    *Transcender practice exams
overrated and highly overpriced. ‘Nuff said. Will not use Transcender again.

    *Ucertify practice exams
    Good stuff. Good learning tool.

Success to a all of you who are going to take the exams.

yep Mike Meyers. May I also suggest Tripwire45s book PC Technican street smarts a real world guide to compTIA A+ certification by James Pyles.

It's an exercise book that will teach you how install hardware and tweak Windows. It's very effective especially if you haven't done much of that sort of thing before but even if you have it's still handy.

I bought Trips book twice, I had already gone through it once then my dog decided to eat some of it so I bought it again. Both books will also become good reference material in the future.
