Just signed up. I'm looking to do some computer training courses in IT I have a rep from Advent Training (www.adventtraining.co.uk) coming round to discuss possible programs. Has anyone used advent before? Maybe you know a better distance learning company's that would be better for me to look at or train with. I've not had any dealings with IT in my current or previous jobs.

I just blew out the Advent training rep just after reading some posts on the forums. I should've signed up here before I made any plans to have meetings with sales reps.

I'm not french by the way.

    Hi and welcome to CF!

There are a *lot* of threads on here about various training companies, and also comparing self-study with trainers.

    Hi welcome to CF!

Umm if you looking for comments give our Training and Devlopment a good read im sure you will find plenty on them. Since you making your mind up give this a read - its all about self study which is ALOT like distance learning just cheaper and a lot more risk free.

I too had a rep come round from Advent. Usual sales talk. I was gonna sign up but then came on here and read peoples comments. I have decided to learn myself now. I'm purchased Mike Meyers A+ book and his training CDs off Ebay. Cost £35 quid so far. Apparently you learn better and remember the stuff better this way.

They state that they can guarantee a job but read that that is all talk. Went to a recruitment agency and they also agreed that the best way to study is by yourself.

I am worried about gaining experience as its all well and good getting the qualifications but everyone is asking for at least 1 year. I don't even seem to be getting anywhere with junior type positions neither.

Hello and Welcome to CF 8)

If you use the search option above you will be able to find all you need to know about the most popular Learning providers out there. Otherwise check out Zimbo's thread on self study!
