Right now that I've got your attention I'll get to the point.

I was reading this article on Yahoo a few minutes ago and it made me laugh.

Now last time that I looked, or at least when I used to be a Mod around this place it was all done on a voluntary basis because you took pride in being a part of that community and wanted to help it thrive. Whilst I am aware that some of the bigger online sites do employ people on a full time (possibly part-time) basis these tend to be only the bigger sites. Added to this I'll bet that those who are 'paid' to be moderators also perform other functions within the sites setup such as marketing, design, etc.

I have no doubt that the 'Paid Moderator' exists in some capacity, but would you really just join a community to moderate it?
