I only keep my BCS membership as work pay for it, I begrudge it every year even then and always end up delaying it until I have them on the phone hounding me.

The review of the course above I'd say is pretty fair, a colleague who was also on the course with me was more infrastructure focused and think the found it boring and a waste of time.

It is pretty high level and not focused towards a specific framework, if you're wanting more detail then you'd be better off going for a TOGAF or the like focused course.

I found a few things useful when I did it and it's what I was expecting, but to avoid disappointment I'd make sure you get a good idea of the sort of thing covered before signing up.

Yeah, I stopped paying my BCS dues, no time to attend meetings so not much point.

I considered TOGAF but its a £2000 course, and I doubt its that comprehensive either.

I'm a software person, I'm not really sure software architecture is an easy thing to teach, certainly not in 5 days.

Also a lot of professional architects seem to deal with rather vague concepts and its not clear the benefits they bring, so I think part the problem could be with the role and its definition.

I would love to take the TOGAF course but it's being viewed as more of an enterprise architecture course in our place. I need to enquire if there's any technical training on offer as I would love to keep up to date. I'm new to architecture so still finding my feet. Im not sure what training I need to be honest....

Thanks all for the reviews on this course. Had it confirmed that I will attend on the 18th of May so very happy with that. I've been given some pre course material which takes 60 minutes to work through so already looking forward to this one. I'll let you know how I get on and what it was like.

    Hi All
I attended this course last week and have to say I was really impressed. I was new to a lot of the content particularly some of the Enterprise Architecture info but all in all I found it very enjoyable. I'm in a rush but will post a bit more about it soon. I sat the intermediate and practitioner exams at the end of the week so hopefully get the results in a week or two by post.
    Cheers
    James

Graham Berrisford from Avancier mate. Possessed incredible knowledge on the subject and was a really good instructor.

Reluctantly kicking and screaming "I don't want to grow up" ha ha :francis:

Tell me about it, I guess in the not too distant future I have to decide if I want to stay a manager or go back techy.

At some point I need to get to grips with design and architecture (especially if I do want my VCDX at some point).

Just the broadness of thinking required mate. The course was quite application orientated which is a weak area for me

You had to LOB that in ha ha I've always thought of myself as a competent generalist. The IT degree gave me a sprinkle of OO programming, the support career and early mainframe days a good variety I thought, but since I become a Solution Architect I've realised my knowledge wasn't nearly broad enough. I'm getting there now but I feel like my mind is being stretched. I gave a few presentations recently and my "puddle deep but an ocean wide" way of describing it seemed to go down well :)

Thing is it's a new direction for you so understandable, it's not a direction I have taken but it is one I need to get a better handle on, again my issue is that I am too hands on :(
