This event is free, open to all, but please book through the BCS website, www.bcs.org/events/registration both for BCS members and non-members for arranging refreshments (or if you have problem, with [email protected] ).

Join us for a fascinating and lively evening of visuals, interactions and discussion with UK's leading indie games developers, also to briefly discuss the a proposed forming of a new BCS Games Development and Animation Specialist Group.

    1. Gobion Rowlands, Co-Founder, Red Redemption - the UK's leading developer of 'sustainable games'. Red Redemption developed the Climate Challenge game with the BBC that has had 2 million plays, won a European Green IT Award and is based on the real climate change data via a partnership with the Oxford University Environmental Change Institute and a team of advisors, many of whom are on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The company has just been announced as 2009 Candidate Tech Pioneers with the World Economic Forum. The games portfolio includes: Operation: Climate Control game which won two Defra Climate Challenge awards, and the Trouble Shooter game for EDF Energy and are currently in the process of developing some commercial games.

Gobion will show how now is a great time to become an idie developer and publisher, how indie games development now encompasses a wider set of genres and platforms, what sustainable games are, and the drivers that have propelled his company into becoming successful.

    2. John Chasey, Co-Founder Finblade & Metismo - John will speak about the path from back bedroom to becoming a successful indie games developer in relation to the current opportunities presented through Apple's iPhone, Google's Android and will present his cross-platform mobile technology (offering a one-development, multiple handset delivery). He will also talk about the Flash adver-gaming business under the auspices of the NESTA 'Raise the Game' program.

John is an entrepreneur in the mobile and games space having extensive experience in both startup businesses and large corporations. The potential of the mobile phone as a games platform was identified in 2000 and led to the founding of a new company IOMO. After significant success including three BAFTA nominations and two successive 'Best Mobile Studio' awards, John joined Infospace as part of IOMO's acquisition for $15m at the end of 2004.

    3. Kam Star, CEO, Playgen - Dubbed the "intrepid game developer", Kam works with cutting edge 3d interactive media, developing learning environments and applications. He has been involved in the development of projects for a host of blue chip and internationally renowned organisations such as the BBC, Cadburys, UNESCO, McKinsey, Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Kam will present some of the exciting games that are being used by corporations, NGOs and public sector organisations to help them improve their staff learning and communications, especially as organisations look to move from an email-driven organisation.
