BBS?!?!

    Not sure if this is the right thread for this...but what in the world is a BBS? I have been seeing them mentioned on the website about idiots who know nothing about PCs and I am reading the section on modems and it mentions BBS again...can someone put muggins here out of his misery? thanks guys...

    BBS = Bulliten Board System
    old system whereby users would dial a number (say, the home number of the guy hosting the BBS)
    and be conntected to it
    this is how many older games (Doom, Descent) were played, along with the early warez scene, and the early net in general

    direct dial systems using cradle modems and the like
    I remember using BBS when i was like 9 and 10, after that the internet became alot more prolifant and i didnt need to use bloody bbs anymore :)
    (were alking 91 - 92 here, im not THAT old! :)

    Internet service Eh, how bout Bulitin Board Service??? Again I don't know, just tryin yto help. It's nothin to do with modem's, but it is the Internet. lol

    and they are a bit to do with modems :)
    thats the priamry thing modems were used for by home users in the days before the www

    eeeeee them were the days! BBC Micro's with 300 baud modems and menus apperaing character at a time :D ...... thank god Broadband and the world wide wibble came along!!

    Now, now children that's enough. I'm 39 and I can remember BBS as well (although never used it because pc's didn't interest me then :blink )

    Phoenix...you're only 2yrs younger than me...I'm 24 but dont mean I know about BBS cos like AJ computers didnt interest me till I was about 17.

    was just commenting on the age comment mate ;)
    doesnt take an old person to understand old tech

    and young people are not gauranteed to know all the new tech
    something to remember :P
