basic stuff but just started

i gettin two older pc's (pentium..3's.... No.1.win 98 No.2.win ME) from some friends... ive only got an linksy adsl2mue modem for my internet connection. what would anyone recomend as a start to my first network type project (eg routers cables software)

i try it... just connect two pc through the ethernet and use my main one as the gateway as such to the internet?? i think i could do that througt xp network wizard witout any additional router etc..

ps(not got the other pc's yet but just looking for a head start. get them friday this week02/06/06)

 

ive only just started for an A+ but looking toward ccna. i come from a manufacturing machinery based background so not a clued up computer person but very keen to learn. i use the internet daily and descover new things all the time and i think learn fast so i just lookin for some basic get me started network info. if i can start with 2 or 3 pc's networked together(at home), hopefully it will give me a good background to move onto bigger things.
