Backup Operators Group and logs

I'm admin on 2003 server, did a full backup. Added John to the backup operators group, he did nightly incrementals. A couple of weeks later I look at the backup logs and I only see my full backup and not any of Johns backups that were successfull.

Any ideas? should I add myself to the backup operators group?

What are you trying to back up? and what software are you using to carry out the backups?
