I remember that before the recession when we advertised for a IT Tech about 10-15 applied for the post. In march when we advertised for a IT Apprentice (so £80pw at the time, vs minimum wage for the entry level tech) we had between 25-30.

If our plans to get another IT Apprentice gets approved in the next couple of months, I'll be estimating about 50-60, if not more...

I've seen the amount of people applying for a couple of posts at our place (non-technical), about 4 times the amount as per normal.

I have yet to get an interview for a job with less than 100 applicants....
one apprentaship had over 500 applicants and an IT tech job on minimum wage had 150ish, got interviews though.

Wow, so thats roughly tripled hasn't it! Its a double edged sword, if your an employer, your going to get more skills per £/$ I'd of thought but if your a jobseeker its going to be even harder to stand out from the crowd. I'm telling you soon as I get fully qualified I'm starting my own firm so I can get on the other side of the fence ha ha

Depends on role and other factors (location, salary etc) I suppose.

Last interview a couple of months back they had about 50 apps.

The reed site is useful as it tells you how many have applied for a job via the site (albeit via an agency). Unless I'm a real good match for the job description I don't bother where I see high numbers have applied.

I didn't know that. Putting numbers down is useful because as you say, unless I matched it exactly, I probably wouldn't apply either. Don't you just love it tho when you see a job and its as if it was written for you?! Doesn't happen often but makes me feel good to know somewhere else uses the same software/hardware as where I am now :D

On non-IT jobs I'm hearing about 400-500 applicants per job.

Sounds about right i helped to fill a vacancy in 2006 it was a MCSE position in the south east we had over 200 people apply and i would say it wasn't the best pay package.

I think somewhere around 13 or 14, but I might have miscounted.
