Just got a job

It's a temp to perm position, the temp part paying £130/day ltd rate so I need to find a good umbrella company to use. Don't want to set myself up as a ltd company as it's a bit of a hassle for a temp->perm role.

Does anyone know of a good umbrella company to get in contact with?

nice one! seriously, what is an umbrella company other than Jonny's one?

 

I don't know the full ins and outs, but basically it is a company that provides 'management services' to contractors.
It means that as a contractor you don't have to worry about VAT returns, tax and all that tedious mucking about.
Often they also offer other services such as legal representation etc.

I used to use nolongerlimited who were pretty good... I'm currently out of contract but i heard that they rebranded to crystal umbrella. www.crystalumbrella.com Supposed to be one of the main umbrella's in the scary world of taxation..

 

An umbrella company acts as an employer to independent contractors.

Umbrella Companies:
- issue invoices on your behalf (usually after you have completed the timesheets)
- collect money due from the client or agency
- calculate taxes and NI due on the payment and then pay the rest to you.

Umbrella companies therefore can ensure that you spend minimal time calculating your salary and tax.

There are loads of directories of umbrella companies on the Internet on sites such as ContractorUK, Contractor IT and Technojobs.

 

I found www.orangegenie.com to be very good, if not the cheapest.

 

Ive used Danbro Umbrella Company for a while now and there really good. No problems and there always helpful! Cheap aswell!
