    Hi all

I’m currently working as electrician and have been for 13 years, but I’m hoping to retrain and move into the IT industry. I’m currently doing self study with Mike Meyers A+ book, but as I have very little experience it’s a lot if info to take in.
Do any of you know an up to date site for practice question for the essentials and IT technician exams, ideally free but would pay if not, the one I found is for the old exam structure of pre 2006.

    Cheers

    Hi and welcome to CF!

What is wrong with the CD that comes with the book? (Assuming you have the All-in-one). My experience is that is remarkably close to the 'style' of the CompTIA exams.

    Welcome to CF! :D

As regards practice tests, you should be able to get something from the likes of Boson or Transcender, if you're looking for something over and above what's on the CD.

One or two of the guys on here have used the Boson practice tests (GBL? Are you there?), and can give a good indication of how they were.

A good place for free practise exams is Pro Prof's, however some of the material is old, and most questions won't really give you the style of the exam.

I would try the two exams you get with the book, they're pretty good.

Apart from that, follow the directions the other guys made :)

Something else- I found this to be very helpful for my A+

    yep I'm here

pro profs is a good site for free practice exams as it is legit and using it can't get you in trouble (most free sites are illegal).

I have used various paid for practice exams and if you want the best paid for exams go with www.boson.com

Had quick look at cd but didn't spend much time on it as it's demo and asumed it was just a small sample, I'll have another look, cheers.
Ta for the links will go have a look.
Do you think it's possible to pass these exams (601, 602) with just theory and little or no pratical experience, as I've only got a old pc that i can use prod and poke at. (and i think i've just messed that up as it won't load desktop or do a system restore)
Sorry if i drag on but i'm new to this forum lark, seems good though.
    Cheers

I don't see why not. If you have a PC to "poke around" in- that would be better. If not, have you considered buying a cheap one?

The videos and the book are great materials, which will generally be enough to pass the A+ exam.
