    Hey everyone,

well what can i say.... I applied for a job as an IT Tech at a local school 2 months ago, interview on 4th Aug. They rang today and offered me the position.................... :shocked I cant believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me... 39, ... lost my job due to an accident 5yrs ago, has been a nightmare these last few years. But while on the sick, i took my A+, setup my own little PC repair business, became a volunteer for Computers for the disabled doing pc setups/repairs. Got p/t work for PC Callout.. Now this... thought it would never come, especially at my age.. At the interview me and the other candidates had to take a small test, cant really remember the questions, but somethin along the lines of... no image on monitor, what could be the problem? i just put obvious things like is it turned on, video cable, gfx card... a guy next to me was writing a technical manual......... god i thought, no way will i get this... but there ya go... whish me luck.. been so long, really nervous!!!!

congrats after going through all of that, you definitly deserve, and it also show that just because there is someone who knows more doesnt necessarly mean that they are the ones to get the job because its not just about knowledge but its about experience and also a good personality. I've been told by empoyers that they rather higher someone less knowledgable with a great personality and invest in their trainning then higher someone who is more knowedgable but has a poor personality.

Anyways I am glad to hear that and good luck at your new job.

    Congrats Kat.

I applied for a few IT posistions at schools in my area so know a lil about what your getting into. You'll have stick from pupils, grieve from teachers and never a moment to sit down lol. However it'll be satisfying, rewarding (when you get a pupil whos really interested) and you get great holidays!!!!

Go out and enjoy it!! but keep posting on here!

Thats if you're term time only!

I get 22 days per year, which must be taken during the 12 weeks of school hoildays! Still, nothing beats working the holidays when there's no one around to bother you! :biggrin

    kat,

Congrats on the job. I know just how hard it is to find that first job after being out of the job market for an extended time while having to enter a new field. Especially when you're of a "mature" age.... There is a lot of age discrimination out there.

I'll second that, the mistake many teachers make with the "kids" - especially if it's a secondary school - is forgetting many of them are nearly adults. If you treat them with the respect you'd expect from them, it'll be great. Having said that, some of them are little b*stards no matter what!

    Congratulations and good luck.
