    Hey all

After a few pointers and if possible to some links in regards to what we are possibly going to be doing over the summer.

We have several types of users, support staff, teachers and students. This has come about as the staff were trying to log on to PC's that they had not logged onto before, they were doing some training and as they hadn't logged on before it took a while for them to get set up etc, which got a few complaints. At the moment we use the roaming profile set up but were thinking of doing mandatory profiles and also deleting cached profiles if a particular user hasn't logged on to a particular machine after say 30 days for instance. Obviously this will mean that we need to tweak group policy and the like.

Just wondering how others go about this and if you have had this issue in the past?

    Thanks for any help

We only use local profiles, map the user to a home drive, and they can get what they want from there.

That said, users are assigned to their own desktops and that's what they keep.

In the event of them moving to a new machine or having to log on elsewhere temporarily, logon time is around 20-30 seconds. I stripped down all GPO's to have only the necessities in them

Roaming profiles makes me shudder, so much bandwidth wasted.

If staff move between PCs then obviously roaming profiles are great but a hassle with the slow logon speeds.

A couple of things you can do to speed things up is to clear the temp internet files (through group policy) and also keep the size of the Outlook .ost file under control. Here is a link that gives more info..
