The best two books for the A+ are compTIA A+ all in one exam guide 6th edition by Mike Meyers and PC Technician Street Smarts by James Pyles.

Yes they will the Meyers book teaches you the theory and the concepts and PC Technician street smarts is a book full of exercises and everyday situations you may come up against as a tech so lets you put the theory and concepts into practice.

The Meyers book also comes with a CD with practice exams on it so you can see if you are ready for the actual exams.

You could also do with an old pc to take to bits/rebuild etc for the practical side.

The Meyers book and Technician street smarts will teach what you need to know about oiling the fan bearings and cleaning/tweaking the OS to improve performance.

Yes it is big, some people seem to think your only supposed to read sections of the book that only relate to the exams you are going to do but they are wrong. Read the whole thing fron start to finish.

    Good luck.
