    FROM: Col. Abdullahi Rahman
122,Woodale Street East London South Africa.

    Dear sir/madam

I know you will be surprised to receive this letter. I must introduce myself. I am Col. Abdullahi Rahman of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)and former Aide de Camp of Former President LAURENT DESIRE KABILA of the Democratic Republic of Congo.I got your contact through the South Africa Information Exchange (S.A.I.E) regarding Yourtrustworthiness as such I decided to ask for your Assistance to transfer my money out of South Africa into your personal account or Company's account.

The Former President LAURENT KABILA,successfully toppled the former President of my country, the late Mobutu Sese Seko and ruled peacefully for a few months. However, after some period the Tutsis from Goma, in the Northern part of my country rebelled against the government of Laurent Kabila and latched a military coup against us with a view of taking over the government. Ever since then, my country has been at war.Due to this war, public funds and properties have been constantly looted and stolen by soldiers andgovernment functionaries were busy helping themselves with government funds and properties and sending them to foreign countries.

Due to this development, when I and other two army officers Where assigned by the president to convey some money to his guest-house, we saw this as a golden opportunity and diverted this money which we share and I got a total sum of US$8.7m (Eight Million seven hundred thousand united state dollars) I quickly made arrangements,(defaced)this money for security reason and transfered it to South Africa and it is now deposited with a Security and Finance Company.I am presently living in South Africa as an asylum seeker and the Financial Laws of South Africa do not allow asylum seekers certain Financial rights. In view of this, coupled with the way in which this money was acquired, I decided not to invest this money anywhere in Africa. For your effort,I am prepared to offer you 20% of the total sum while 10% will be set aside for local and international expenses incurred during this transaction.

From the above, you will understand that my entire life and future depends on this money as such, I will be gratefully if you can assist me.Please note tha this transaction is 100% Risk-Free and the major thing I ask you is complete assurance that the money will be safe when transferred to your overseas account. If you are interested, please contact me on the above telephone. Even if you are not interested I will be grateful if you maintain the confidentiality of this matter.

I am looking forward to your urgent responce.

    Col. Abdullahi Rahman

Thing is that in real life these guys are real nasty pieces of work. I read an article a couple of years back about a mayor of some town in Yorkshire falling for this scam. The knob-end sent them loads of money and then got on a flight to somewhere in Africa to pick up his 'millions'. When he got off the flight he was quickly bundled into the boot of a car and held for a ransom...I think the police caught up with them and that's how he got released...can't remember where I read it but it did indeed happen!

No, hang on you bunch of sceptics!

It has to be legit, because he is a Colonel, and Colonels do not lie. We know he is a Colonel, because he puts 'Col.' in front of his name. See?

He also puts El Presidente's name in BLOCK CAPITALS, so you can only IMAGINE how IMPORTANT he must BE!

I've been intrigued by the number of identikit scam mails I've seen recently where the appropriate changeable fields (names, dates, addresses etc) have been left blank so they can be tailored to the scammers spec. HOWEVER!! The fields they have changed come up underscored!
I swear the scammers have got bored now and are trying to make it easy for people to spot they're being ripped off. I'm waiting for the 1st mail I get that begins with; "THIS IS A SCAM!! DO NOT REPLY!!"
Maybe it's a defence so if they're ever caught they can claim that any one dumb enough to fall for it deserved everything they got ripped off for?

Cheekmaster i've had a couple of those this year already and had to laugh at them.

Did anybody see "Have i got news for you" last night? so funny.

This type of email was sent to someone in the audience and guys in the audience had a bit of fun with then.

They asked the emailers to send photo's of themselves to prove there identity and sent then t-shirts to wear with slogans such as "I SH*G SHEEP" written on them and their English was so good they wore them, took the photo's and sent them back!!:p
