    hi everyone,

i am consultant. i am citp and soon i will apply for ceng.

i am in a very difficult situation. as we all know that the economy is not doing very well. i was in a position to help many of my mates with contracts and stuff but because of the economic melt down now i am in a situation where i need help.

these days i am looking for a contract. because things are not well in the city, i havent had a very good response yet. many recruiters have called. i have cut down my rate by 40% (dont ask details; everyone in the city knows the situation.)

    anyways, here is my question:

i have been offered a direct contract with a giant soft porn media and publishing company. they have offered me my actual rate. which is good. really good. its a direct contract and we all know that direct contracts are a blessing. being a citp and hopefully a future ceng, what do you guys think, shall i go ahead and take the contract or do you think it will ruin my future career.

by the way, morally, i do not have any issues working for a soft porn company. they have a professional IT department and everyone is nice.

being a citp, shall i take the role?
is it going to affect the decision making when i will apply for ceng?
how will my future clients see this when i will apply for contracts in the future?

what are your thoughts? any help would be greatly appreciated. and thanks a lot in advance for replying to this message.

thanks for reading this long message.

    cheers!

Hi and welcome to the forums !

As to your quandry, is it obvious from the Company's name what line of business it's in ? If not then I wouldn't worry about it as it will be just another name on your CV.

If it is obvious or you would feel that you would have to discuss the topic of their bsuiness then I'm sure there are ways of phrasing things very generally and the company name can be witheld and just given to "serious" interviewers in the futue.

Other than that, unless you have a moral objection - go for it ! As you say, in the current climate ....

Hi & welcome to CF :)

This is totally up to you, being a CITP myself, I can't see any problems as long as you abide by the BCS Code of Conduct (but then again, I don't speak for the BCS). In my eyes, IT is IT.

I do not know for sure, but I can't see it having a negative effect. The application for both the CITP & the CEng rely on you meeting several key points and to my knowledge the employer's nature of business is not one of them.

I believe only your future clients can answer this, if they have a moral issue with the nature of business of your previous employers - it may be an issue. However if they are interested in the actual work that you do, instead of what your employers do, then I believe it won't be an issue.

IT is IT - end of story.
I've worked for an online gamming company, and it's never hurt me. Actually, it's started a number of side-conversations at interviews.

At the end of the day, I was routing traffic, and administating Unix & Win boxes in 3 continents and got to travel too.
