according to the lab specs in the book it requires win 7x64 and server 2008R2

Can i use win 7x32 and server 2008 standard as my machine will not run x64 bit machines in virtual box as there is no option to enable VT in the bios even though the processor is capable

machine is a HP DX2300 and the option is not available

There will be a few things you can't do without the R2 version of Server 2008, such as DirectAccess (which is a bugger to setup to do anyway!)

    Otherwise you should be gravy.

There will be no handicap in using the x86 version of Win7 rather than the 64-bit one.

Also, if you've passed 680 already, there's very little extra you'd need to lab for. I'd read through a good book and get hold of a video course for the 685.

x64 should work but motherboard is crippled by HP and wont allow me to enable VT

Yes, which is why I mentioned previously studying for the 680, but it's not mandatory. Any MS exam can be taken with or without taking others to complete a cert.
