    Hey Guys,

Haven't been on the forum for a while.

Took the windows 7 exam (70-680) yesterday and failed by one point!!!

For those who don't know, the exam is 50 questions.
They scored it out of 1,000 (so if you answer 50/50 =1,000)
    I scored 680/1000. (34/50)
The pass mark is 700/1000 (35/50) so I was 1 away from passing.

I'm upset about this result however I am hoping to use the "second-shot" voucher on rebooking the test for either Monday or Tuesday.

    I will keep all posted.

To bad about the fail, you'll pass it next time.

One thing... Not all questions are weighted equally, so 700/1000 may not equal 35/50 :)

Unlucky, but hopefully it will work out in the coming days.

This, so be careful about running straight back into a retry. You might want to do another few weeks revision if you are able to do so. Not sure how the second shot exams work and if there is a time limit on the retake. If you have time though, then I would recommend you take it and use it to full effect.

You will definitely not receive the same exam 'form' for the resit. So be prepared for a totally different set of Q's.

Good luck and don't feel bad. You're almost there and certainly know a large amount of the necessary info to pass. I'd always take a re-test in 1-2 weeks if poss. That way I'd feel it isn't too soon to allow me time to go over concepts that I failed on and not so long that I start to forget info from the study material I was going through at the begining.

I thought the pass score was 700 but there was no out of part. I'm sure I read somewhere that someone got more than 1000 on an exam.

There are several official responses regarding exam scores on the MS Learning internet site. I am particularly fond of this one though:

Good luck next time. I just took it a few weeks ago. Review your lower scoring areas. Next test take your time and read each question carefully. They have some tricky worded questions.

Wow, I've not seen that before... :blink

Does this mean that I still might be a genius despite my score of 715 on the 290!? Hahaha

Yesterday I phone prometric and they were going on stupid, stating that the voucher had to be applied upfront (and not after the fact).

When you’re so focused about JUST doing the exam and they are booking it for you, they should have either prompted me for code (which I am positive i mentioned if i fail i can use the "second shot", the person who booked it for me is calling back on Monday and one way or another I am re-doing this test.

I plan to retake with a week (there is a personal pressure as the MCPIT is 5 exams in total and this is SUPPOSED to be the easiest out of all) This has set me back in terms of my "study plan" I did not factor in failing an exam (which is how confident I felt and with the bombardment of mock tests I took) it all experience

If anything, all should learn from my exuberance.

Yes, I think that Prometric are correct in this statement. You do have to specify the code before sitting the original exam for a 'free' resit to be offered through a specific voucher as the 2 exams are tied in together.

Hope it works out for you though...

Yes, there is always the possibility of failure on any exam, so giving yourself extra time is a must. Especially as, I'm sure you know already, 2 of the MCITP:EA exams are due for retirement on July 31st (643 & 647) - along with the MCITP's generally.

Have you thought of going down the MCITP:SA route instead? As it's less exams (3) and you will still earn the new MCSA: Server 2008 cert whichever route you now take.

    Dear all,

Again apologies on the delay of the update.

A week (to the day) after failing, I re-took the test and I a happy to announce that I passed.

    800/100 = 40/50.

It was different, however the further hammering of tests and the investigations of why I was consisitently getting certain questions wrong (e.g. drag & drop and three key different questions with the block of static 7 same answer questions) was a learning curve.

Upfront they give you a sheet you can write on, therefore used it as an effective tool.

The questions I was 100% sure about, I marked on the sheet (amounted to about 20), so simply to pass I had to make further sure of the 15.

The result came off that I managed to get a further 20 correct.

Im sure your all aware of the undecided question, that feeling of unsureness of these questions (as they could go either way counting to your correct or incorrect scores?) Which I narrowed down to 3 {always a good feeling}.

Anyway started to study from yesterday (plus ive got 2 weeks off from work so should help in this mammon task of studying for the 70-640).

Hey, congrats on the pass! :)

Knew that if you stick to the studying you'd get it second time around.

Might be an idea to forget that scoring method you have though, as it's just not correct.

800/1000 (if indeed it is out of 1000) is a pass but not necessarily anywhere near 40/50 q's answered correctly as each q is weighted differently.

As long as it's above 699 - everyone's happy! :biggrin
