Just wondering if there is anyone else out there trying to sit and pass this upgrade exam before the July 31 retirment date? Would be keen to hear how others are getting on with it (or not)

I am hoping to sit this exam on the 19th July - not really giving me much chance of a resit should I (fingers crossed I don't) fail. Has anyone got any tips/advice they would like to offer?

I would love to sit this exam, but first I need to past the 291 exam on the 4th, and then I doubt I would have enough time to squeeze this one in Just a pain that Microsoft is killing the exam.

Just found out that more Server 2008 exams are being retired in January 2014 including 70-640, 70-642 & 70-646 so Microsoft are effectively putting the MCSA 2008 to bed!

 

Well I have finally taken the plunge and booked the 648 for the 19th July! Fingers are already crossed.

I saw the same retirements but when I double checked a few days ago only the 70-640 and the 70-642 are on there now. Not sure what happened to the 70-646 but after speaking to a MS guy on the chat he confirmed that the 646 is not scheduled in for retirement as yet. While that's good news for myself and many others I'm sure, I am a little miffed as to why only 2 of 3 are retiring Jan 31st.

@nXPLOSi - I am very miffed about it all too... but on the plus side it has given me the kick up the backside I needed to get these done.

Apparently - from what I have read there could be quite a bit of ADCS questions in the exam - so now just brushing up on that and a few other bits and bobs too!

 

I'm with you on that one, made me wake up a bit and get cracking too! I've read the 640 is quite heavy on AD CS as well, although I haven't got to that chapter just yet!

Just had a look at the Microsoft site and it appears that the 70-291 retired on the 31st of Jan 2013 but is also due to retire on the 31st of July 2013. Microsoft at its best!

Retired exams

 

Well they don't call it the BEAST for nothing.... they have to retire it twice before it dies!

 

Further to the 70-646 coming off the retirement list, the 70-640 and 70-642 seem to have been removed as well now! I guess this means the MCSA 2008 is not being retired Jan 14 any longer.

I will keep checking the list, it seems to change on a weekly basis!

I think it is a good thing - surely it was far too early to retire those 2008 exams.

 

Well I am sitting this exam on Friday -taken a few days off work to cram in those last minute details. Just wondering if anyone out there has any last-minute-nuggets-of-gold pieces of advice. Anything would be greatly appreciated.
