I'm also thinking about taking this exam. I've recently earned MCSA in Server 2008, but heard that it's better to upgrade to 2012 right away. I've bought a server and installed 2012 on it, just to get my hands around. But it doesn't help much having just one instance. So, I've bought an online video course (with virtual live servers), and will try to study and prepare for this exam. Looks much more challenging than 2008. I think this composite 417 is more difficult than taking three single exams, but I can't imagine myself studying for those three exams, I would prefer just one. I also got a used book for 417 - I think reading helps as well.

What is your method of study? Do you find the material hard?

I have the 417 study guide and support a 2012 environment so plenty of hands on.

To be honest I won't be bothering with Microsoft exams for the time being, having the NT4, Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 MCSE's\MCITP's is enough money to Microsoft for the moment, I skipped 2000 because I really couldn't be bothere and I feel the same with the 2012, thats not to say that the 2012 OS isn't nice (it is, I run it at home in my lab) but I am moving more towards the VMware stack these days.

I will no doubt eventually decide to do this if for no other reason than to add yet more letters to the bottom of my signature.
