So I have started reading and making notes on 70-293 and have finished the first two chapters.

Have to say that it seems to be very much like the 70-291 so far.

Maybe that will change a bit later in the book.

    I'll keep you posted.

I'm not surprised, on the 2k route there was the 70-216 and the 70-218, both very similar (the 70-218 was hailed the easier 70-216) but with a few minor differences.

A colleague of mine who took both the 70-291 and 70-293 last year commented to me that the the two were very close in difficulty and subject. He found the 70 293 had more of a slant towards network security.

    If this helps :ohmy

On the second from last chapter at the moment on the 70-293.

I would recommend for anyone to do this straight after the 70-291 as alot of it is repeated is repeated is repeated...

Are you guys saying it would be definitely better to go for the 70-293 straight after the 70-291?

I am soon to take the 70-290 and was going to plough straight in to the 70-291 afterwards. After that i would have went for either the 70-620 Vista, 70-351 ISA 2006 or 70-284 Exchange 2003 to complete MCSA.

Even though it would delay me becoming an MCSA, would you suggest i go straight on to the 70-293 from the 70-291 so i don't have to try to relearn the same things as much again? I do fully intend to pursue the MCSE path.

Hope i have not confused anyone with all those numbers.

Yeah, go for the 70-293 after the 70-291 especially if the MCSE is your goal. 8)

Might actually sprinkle a bit of MCDST in there somewhere between them perhaps if i think i can get a pass quickly on mostly my experience and the 70-270 pass knowledge :biggrin but i think you are right.

    Thanks

8)yes, I agree with the fora members that 293 is very similar to 291 in content ( idonot know the exam differences- for I am also yet to sit for it soon). the only differences I have so far seen (having read the 02 books each twice now) is in the emphasis, 293 places in planning (compare with implementing in 291) for security (introduces digital certificates, emphasises IPSEC through templates/ group policies) elaborates on appropriate planning for network erver availability through network backup (almost as detailed as was in 290 for Servers) and emphasises networkload balancing/ clustering. big similarity is in DNS (Iam happy subneting- my former waterloo is less emphasised), TCP/ IP and RRAS are similar.

Nevertheless, despite the great similarity, I think an administrator needs the 02 disparate skills (planning -293 and implementing - 291) in managing a network infrastructure.

Wish you luck in the cert exams. I only hope the similarities are not extended there. 291 was quite hard!! Iam still not yet ready for a go
