    Hi,

I'm starting the hardcore studying from tomorrow for an exam attempt end Sept......I do have VM Ware and a W2K3 server as well as XP and Vista........from those that plan to or have sat this exam and used VM Ware, what do I ideally need to set up to help learn the concepts for the exam and beyond into 293.

I'm sure I'll be looking at a DC, DHCP server, DNS.....but would having an App Server and Web Server be required/help me?

I've got about 2 years 3rd level experience and 1 year at 2nd level.......3rd Level is basically windows server support, but mainly web servers and therefore many IIS resets......we also support a lot of DMZ environments and domains......so I've had limited exposure to networking suffice to say I know the high level stuff.

    Any help appreciated.

Hi mate, Craigie set this virtual lab up which helped me pass 291. Its got everything you need except install WSUS on one of the servers. Cheers, Jim

Well MS are very proud of WSUS and normally ask plenty of questions on it to make sure you know they're proud of it. WSUS requires IIS so you may as well configure a member server and install WSUS then practice updating a test XP client with it. There's nowt on IIS specifically on 70-291. You got that out of the way with 70-290 so beyond WSUS a web/app server isn't a great deal of use but once you're sorted with WSUS you can always use it to test IPSEC configs

Don't fotget SUS also, they are no doubt still testing on that in the 291 as well. eg upgrading a SUS to a WSUS server would be good to know about.

Dunno if you can actually still download SUS from MS or not though.

Thanks for the tips chaps. Exam booked for 2nd October.......I'll bring it forward if I feel ready before then.

Pass that and I'll try to get 293 in before the end of the year.
