I recently sitted the 70-290 exam having used the MS Press study book along with the Boson & TestKing sims and failed it

What exam sim would you recommend as been the best for this exam?

I would highly recommend trancender, its supposedly nearest to the real thing, although at the moment I don't think they have written any simulations for it. As long as you've had some exposure to 2003 you should be fine though.

Chopper, I'm sorry about the exam but don't let it get you down. Your not the first nor will you be the last.

Follow the link below and make sure that you understand and can perform all the task in the matrix at the bottom of the page. If there something you are having prombles with copy and paste it from the matrix into the search box of technet of msdn it should give you a how to. The links are also provide on this page.

I agree with loopy though, transcender is the best out there. However, in my opinion you need more than a pratice exam. Pratice exams are good for finding your weakness in a area but than use the MS site to get more information in those areas to help build your skills up. :)

You might also consider working with the "real thing". I know that the average person can't necessarily afford to buy a full version of Windows Server 2003, but you can get a free copy of the evaluation software. It's good for 180 days then it stops working but that should be plenty of time to ramp up. Here's the link and good luck on the second shot.

Yep I used transcender for 70-290, it came with 3 practice papers, and they offer good explanations at the end of it as well. I've also spend a few days with the evaluation 2003 software, going through the exercises within the microsoft press book. It may be worth me pointing out though that I still haven't passed this exam, I got 590 on my last shot and that was my 3rd attempt!! I still think trancender is the way to go, just try not to "learn" the answers.
I've read syngress, exam cram and microsoft press for this exam, so I should be prepared this time, take 4 next wednesday anyway!!

Having worked with 2003 since it's release the sims I got were things you could do with your eyes shut. What I didnt like was the off topic questions they asked.

When I sat the exchange 5.5 exam and got asked questions about how do I reconfigure a Digital All in One to talk to exchange I thought it was out of order. This time they kept it all on their own material but it was way out of the scope of the 70-290 study material.... where in this book does it do into great detail about AD replication and supernetting as these were two of the off topic questions I got.

A quiet word would be to say the these are pretty much braindumps, and there's little doubt that braindumps ain't worth the sh1t they're written on.

    Just CF's opinion :)

I sat the 70-290 in April and passed (just!). for the sim questions there's no substitute for experience with the OS. I used the MS study kit and the Transcender; I do think that for this exam the readiness review on the CD with the MS kit was invaulable.
Loopy, is your re-sit tomorrow? All the best mate

Well i've just come back from my 4th failure and i'm so gutted, I felt so ready for it!. Had 4 simulations which were creating users in active directory, using IIS to create an additional web site, sharing folders and adding correct permissions and unlocking a user account within ADUC, which I knew all of how to do. So frustrating, i've been revising for this exam since november last year, read 2 large text books (MS-Press and Syngress) and revised from exam cram and also a brain dump from test king, so i'm officially revised out!!.
Do you think Microsoft are just money grabbing? because it sure feels like it, what do I have to do to pass this damn thing??
Luckily I registered for the free retake, so I get to try again in 2 weeks, but i'm not sure how to revise for this again now.
I made sure I had some exposure to the product this time, although the company I work for it moving to 2003 later this year, maybe I should wait for that to happen, grrr

Hard Luck, Loopy. I'm sure at the end of the day it's all a lottery about which questions you get. I was lucky and had, mostly, questions I was OK on - my weakest areas didn't turn up.

Don't want to drag you down even further but I hear those simulation questions (the ones you got right) don't actually count towards your mark at the moment  (did you spot the small print in your intro screens mentioning Beta questions won't be marked?)

How did your print outs look? Did they give you any one area to concentrate on for next time?

Sorry to hear the news, Loopy.

This is probably at least part of the reason, m8.

Can I just remind EVERYONE to be aware of our stance on any form of braindumps by reading our Rules & Guidelines.

    Thanks.

I knew there would be beta question's involved but they didn't indicate they were the simulation ones, thats ok although i'm not 100% sure they were totally correct anyway.
I didn't learn the questions on the test king, I used it for practicing questions as the trancender software doesn't seem to have been updated yet with the simulations, but i'm totally aware they can be incorrect and the risks of using them. Its just at this stage, anything that can help me pass this damn thing I consider helpful. Are there any sites you can suggest that might contain some good practice exams or advice?
I guess i'll just have to get back into the books again and hope i'm "lucky" next time.
    Thanks for the support.

I signed up on microsoft's web site before I had my first attempt, put the promo code into prometric's web site before I booked it. I've got to rebook my free retake today with them so hopefully it will go through smoothly. You will have to get in quick though as the offer expires on the 31st of may!!.

Register with Microsoft of this site first
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/offers/2ndshot/
Then book online for your first take on either prometric's site or Vue's site and quote the reference number Microsoft give you.
I've just rebooked my exam for 2 weeks time and they haven't charged me yippee!! was a pretty painless process for a change. :biggrin
