I've got some course material, CBTs, for exam 70-270 and I was wondering whether they could be of any use for the MCDST?

Some of it will be useful, just don't rely on it soley. After all there are differences between the 70-270 and the MCDST (70-271 & 70-272) just take a look at Microsoft's site regarding the exam objectives.

I would rather think its the other way around. I havent looked at my 70-270 book yet but having read the MCDST books I would say they will be preparing me for the 70-270 material

What i undestand if you havee 70-271 and 70-272 is equivalent to 70-270, which means if you plan to take 70-270 exam doesn't realy necessary as you have the equivalent. Also, 70-271 &70-272 is equal to 1 MCP. Hope i'm right.

Hi & welcome to CF, why not introduce yourself here and be a part of this community :)

No, it isn't. While there is some cross-over, there are differences. Hence why the 70-270 counts as the client requirement for the MCSA/MCSE and the MCDST does, the same goes for if you pass the 70-270 you do not gain the MCDST cred.

Sorry, again no. While by passing both exams you gain the MCDST, by passing 1 of those exams you gain the MCP credential.
