Taking 070-293 tomorrow - exactly two weeks after passing 291. Just two more to go then for my Windows 2k3 MCSE.

I notice that as I got MCSE on NT4, I don't have to take any elective exams this time round. Looking at the various certification requirements, I see that by not taking an elective on the 2k3 track, I miss out on MCSA.

Question is, is it worth me taking one more exam (having already done six) just for that?

I would suppose it depend on what you do for a living, weather the extra exam will be useful to you, what you plan on doing after gaining it, weather or not you would rather persue other certs such as Cisco, or specialise in a specific area.

All factors that you need to think about. 8)

I don't do anything for a living at the moment, which is partly why I'm doing the MCSE course. However I have been lined up for a trainer post with the local training centre where I'm doing my course.

I've been an IT Tech and Network Manager over the last ten years so I am looking at exploring other technologies such as Cisco

That is certainly the plan.. Got 833 for 291 so aiming to get a score into the 900s this time round.

Now the finishing line is in sight, I can't wait to finish the last two before xmas. No more spending endless hours in front of my PC going through practice questions.

I will soon get my life back!

    Best of luck mate.

I'd say do the one more for the MCSA as well. What harm can it do?

I'm focusing on MCSA now (70-291 being WIP) so I'll be posting the odd question or 2 around here. I think I'm starting to get the hang of DNS, don't hold me to that though hehe.

Active directory is quite a different animal to NT4...

    Good luck Phil.

As for one more exam for MCSA. Hmmm, well the MCSE trumps MCSA any day, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over not having an MCSA. If you got it on the way, like I did fair enough but I wouldn't have gone out of my way to attain it.

Got 650 in the exam on Monday, which of course is just slightly short of the 700 required.

However we take it again tomorrow so doing some intensive revision on the areas I was weakest on on the test report. That and applying for jobs.

The way MCSE works on Windows 2k3, if you're new to MS certifications then you automatically pick up MCSA on the way to MCSE. But with NT4 MCSEs being exempt from the elective exams, you don't get MCSA automatically.

I'm just taking it one at a time at the moment.

Well, attempt number 2 at 293 today. Also I received a nice little email from Microsoft yesterday congratulating me on becoming a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator!

It seems my MCSE on NT4 exempts me from the electives of that track as well, so having passed 270, 290 and 291, I have my MCSA! I take it back Bill...

In a reversal of fortune today, got through 293 with the rather more repsectable score of 925!

So just 294 and 298 to go now for MCSE. Bring it on!

Thanks everyone, and to answer Paddyboys question, no there aren't any sims in 293 - at least not as of yesterday. A few drag and drop type though. 40 questions in all with 110 minutes allowed.

Clustering and Certificates are the main focus of the subject matter, so make sure you know those areas.

Already preparing for 294, which I hope to take in around a weeks time.
