i have a question about those exams: in what order should they be done, seeing that 293 is planning and 291 is the implementation?

or should i study them "as one"?

Personaly, after just taking a look at the objecitves for both I'd say that they are very closely matched in what topics they cover. However, that said, I'd probably go for 70-291 first.

291 seems to be covering more of the skills and required for the day to day operation, where as 293 seems to get a bit more advanced on those topics e.g.

    291:

    293:

I suppose what I am trying to say is that you need to be familliar with 291 to understand 293. :blink

Along these lines- is it unwise to be doing 291 as the first Win2K3 on a MCSA/MCSE track? Should I be looking at doing a 2K3 server exam first?

Unless I much mistaken, 291 is a server exam, but it seems much more logical for you to get the client exam under your belt 1st (270), then 290, then 291, or 293 ...

290 is the server exam. 291 is: Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure.

I have the book for 291 which I bough about a year ago so I've been doing that tentatively for the last couple of months.

What I'm wondering really is whether I need to know the ins and outs of the server OS exam topics to be able to to the practical questions on the 291 exams.

The networking topics I am relatively OK with, getting there with DNS and WINS but TCP/IP and subnetting/supernetting I can do having recently finished CCNA. That's another reason I went straight for 291- to utilise all I've just learned when I was studying CCNA and go for the MS exam that would be the closest match to what I've just been doing.

I haven't come across anything in the 291 book that's made me think 'hmm maybe I should be getting more familiar with the OS first' I'm just wondering if there's anything that will make me think that later on...

I would definately do 290 before 291. It is assumed for the 291 exam that you are competent with the ins and outs of server 2003 and a lot of what you learn in 290 will be carried over into the 291 exam :D

Would also do 270 before either of these
