2285b Installing, Configuring & Administering Windows XP Professional - Prerequisites

According to the official course book, it says that you need:

    A+ Certification or equivalent knowledge
    N+ Certification or equivalent knowledge

    and either:

#2208 Updating Support Skills with Windows NT4.0 to Windows Server 2003

    -or-

    #2274 Managing a Server 2003 Environment
    #2275 Maintaining a Server 2003 Environment

To be honest the book looks pretty easy as I have lots of experience with WinXP. I have A+, and have started N+ but haven't got very far yet - I have a fair bit of networking knowledge though. I can't see the course really demands it to be honest. Question is, would this stop me from taking the exam? Or do you recommend that I finish the N+ first (it will take me a while, unlike the XP course). Also my employer will pay for my MCP exams..

Depends on what your Xp experience is really.

You might want to look at the book/exam requirments for 70-270 instead if you're intending to go the MCSE route.

If you think that' s a little too far ahead then the MSCDT with 70-271 and 272 may be better.

It will also depend on how much you're done supporting Xp desktops on anetwork with a server.

Hold on, this may sound daft but is 70-270 and 2285b the same thing, i.e. installing, configuring & administering XP Pro..?

Could be, I'm not sure. If I've read it correctly then 2285b is a classroom course but may only cover part of the syllabus. Which exam is it you wnat to take ?

My book says 2285B Installing, Configuring & Administering Windows XP Pro. Which I thought was for the 70-270 exam...

OK, in that case I may as well do that and get my first MCP out of the way, it should be pretty easy, a bit of light bedtime reading..:) Passing that should then motivate me to do my Network+ and then on to some Server stuff.
