Have not seen a 2018 thread yet, so thought I would start one.

I tend not to have a complete set list but 2018 will be aiming for:

    CIPM
    CIPP
    Entry level law class
EXIN Privacy & Data Protection Foundation

What is everyone else's cert goals for next year?

    Certifications: A few.

AWS Certified Solution Architect - Associate and if I pass that, possibly Professional but I can't think that far ahead :emoji_thinking:

VCP 6.5 or 7 in who knows what. My VCP6 expires at the end of Feb so the pressure is well and truly on, so I might play it safe and go for
VMware Certified Professional 6.5 – Data Center Virtualization. Certainly no where near enough time to attempt a VCAP

Interesting combo, is it for work reasons or just those areas you want to learn about?

Yeah, I just want a broad knowledge base. I want to understand how everything works together, and then take it from there.

No IT certification goals for me. I plan on testing for my 3rd degree Level 4 TKD black belt sometime in early 2018, then 4th degree in mid 2019.

Depends what training I'll get through work - really want to do VCP but no way I'm paying for training myself. Still might have to fork out for the exam anyway. Again if work will send me on some AWS training I will consider AWS sysops associate.

Still can get access to linux academy through visual studio essentials and want to focus on learning linux. If I get some exposure to real world linux stuff I might consider some certs.

Would like to upgrade my mcsa to 2012 and do mcse but I don't see how this would help my career. If work was paying for exams and encouraging it then I'd probably go for it.

I always enjoyed learning for certs but I don't see the value there to pay for them myself. Top certs maybe, vcdx, ccie etc. Quite far from that level yet :) Think that getting vExpert or MVP could be more beneficial, one would also get to know more people in the process and connections can open more doors than certs ever will.

I'm aiming to have my first CCNA In Cyber Ops by May if all goes to plan.

Like to have my CCNA R&S this year too. Also considering Sec+ and the CompTIA Cyber Sec exam too to renew my N+.

    Oh and a new job!

An old post but it does the job. How is everyone getting on with their plans for 2018? I passed my VCP 6.5 but that’s as far as I’ve got certification wise. I’d say my general knowledge has increased massively however now that I work for VMware.

2019 I’m going to look to get my first VCAP if I can. Won’t be easy as I’m no longer hands on

In regard to certs not so good however in regard to work

Server 2016 – upgraded various networks to Server 2016 this year – TS environments, Hyper-V failover etc,
CEH – worked as a security specialist as part of a project where two corporate networks would need to share resources. Project value - £500k.
Office 365 - various upgrades completed as per customer requirements.

A busy year that’s for sure but I really want to get CEH done next year if I can.

CEH is a funny one people who take it say it is out of date and not good but HR people want it so is worth getting. Similar to CEH is CompTIA PenTest+ could be worth a look. I took the Beta exam was good a tough exam but also cheaper than CEH I think.

On the Cert front, a bit naff. However:
    • I know Cyber Ops / Cyber Security isn't for me,
    • 6 Months at the new job and really enjoying it.
    • Aiming to have the CCENT by Christmas.

I agree @Rob1234, it will be interesting to see how well the CompTIA PenTest+ gets on because at least CompTIA keep their certs up to date and review them regularly. CEH has always been over priced but is seen as the defacto standard isn't it. I'd love to have got it. Years ago I passed one by Mile2 called the CPTS. I've forgotten all of it now but it was really interesting to study for.

Sounds like while a lot of us havent hit our certification goals, we're doing great on the work experience front

    CCNA - Done
    Sec+ - Done
    CCNA Cyber Ops - Done
    70-533 (MCSE) - Done
    Linux+ - In progress

Replaced RHCSA with 70-533, but i'm calling that on target. Should have Linux+ done by late November/early December, then hopefully RHCSA by end of Jan. I almost can't believe I've done this many. A couple years back (2016) I put in the same amount of study time and closed the year out with 1 passed exam (70-640) after 6 consecutive fails. (70-685/640). Just shows what can happen if you keep at it. :D

Yeah - CEH does look like an HR type of exam but enjoying the book so far. PenTest+ next perhaps :)
