    Hi all

Does anyone have an opinion about when free disk space can affect Windows server performance? Diskeeper recommends that your drives should not drop below 20% free as lack of contiguous free blocks can cause excessive fragmentation. And does it make a difference how large the drive is? For example a 300gb drive still has 60 gig free at 20% That seems enough not to cause a problem wouldn't you agree?

    thanks

I'm not sure about server but the PC I have now is the first PC I have had since 96 and its hasn't dropped below 167GB out of 250GB yet.

But I remember my last PC which had a 250MB hard drive as soon as I got 90MB left although it had 96MB Ram which was good back then the performance of the PC went to a crawl.
