1st step on the journey to MCSE:Security

    Hi All,
    Just wanted to share that today, after many weeks of intensive self study and practise in work, I passed the first course on what will ultimately lead me to become a MCSE:Security Server 2003.

    I didn't know what to expect so despite having a Computer Science degree, its safe to say my bottle well and truly went for today's exam. 70-270 Implement, configure, support etc etc Windows XP Pro. Not that difficult I thought seeing as I'd used XP for years. How wrong can one man be! I'd revised all the basics, then RIS, RIPrep, Answer files, T2TP etc but this being my first Microsoft exam I didn't have a clue what to expect.

    The exam was very network based with only 1, maybe 2 "gift" questions where it was obvious what the answer was. Cut a long story short I had to answer 50 questions in 2 hours 20 minutes and get a score of 700. How 700 comes from 50 is not explained. All questions were multiple choice, some requiring more than one answer.

    What score did I pass the test with??? Bang on 700!

    Final result = a happy JK2447 MCP : )

    PS I don't want to become a paper MCSE so the feedback printout I got after the exam means I'll be going over the security side of things and TCP/IP, WINS etc again before I move onto a Server 2003 exam. Good luck to anyone taking 70-270. Don't take it lightly.

    Congrats on the pass :)

    MS doesn't release how the exam are marked so how as long as you score 700 or more, you've passed :)

    oh I'm not complaining, I was made up. Just hopefully won't cut it so close next time. I think I'll be a bit more prepared for the kind of questions . . . . hopefully! ha ha

    Ken I meant to ask, is 700 the pass score for all Microsoft exams or does it vary?

    It's the pass mark on all the exams I've taken. But, that isn't to say it's out of 1000 or (indeed) 70%.

    Major congrats on the pass BTW. 8)
