I passed it last month, and didn't even realise. 10 years, hanging around on here with you gummy lot. Blimey, that time's gone quickly!

Happy 10 years. I was looking at the wayback machine the other day to find some old text for my website. I found the text on which i had bragged about being in the business for a "whole 2 years", I changed it the "2" to a "9". I had to sit back a bit and take in that i have been running this place for 9 years.

Guys, time flies, before you know it, we will all be old codgers like me, i am 102 this year

Next year i will be clocking 20 years in Networking.

Was talking to my wife the other day about it, and i think soon i might be hanging up my networking boots and moving on. I suggested resuming the Commercial Pilot route, you know plugging the airways of Europe for one of the budget carriers but she shot that out of the sky like the Luftwaffe. So i suggested Flying instructor instead, so maybe just maybe in a few years when Uncle Joe hangs up his networking boots i might be a flight instructor, who knows, but i know there is no way i will be in IT for another 20 years, i have little sanity left to go around for it.

It's funny isn't it. Without sounding cheeky I'd imagine we have both done fairly well out of IT. Houses holidays cars or what have. Yet after enough time I definitely think, there has to be more to life than this. I love IT but one day I want to get out of it too. I have simple tastes, property investment is my dream

I love what i do, meeting a new bunch of folks on each class is the best part of my job. And yes i'd like to think that I.T has treated me well but you will probably agree that the holidays, the house, the car have not come easy, the late nights in the comms rooms trying to get stuff to work, the long hours driving from site to site, customers bellowing at you as soon as you walk through the door like wilder beast.

If i could do it again i would change a couple of things but on the whole i have loved teaching and being a network engineer, i have met some real great people who have become good friends of mine and my students inspire me to be better every course i run but everything comes to an end at some point.

My dream is to do what i love and that is flying for a living, if i could do that it would be just great, teaching people the joy of flying would be priceless.

@cisco lab rat Could you not own the network business but just make yourself a silent partner? I've always dreamed of getting my PPL. I'll be your first customer mate!

Well I've just had a quick swim in my vault of coins before coming on here so I still turn up
