Now that sound like something for nothing.........my grandma used to tell me you never get something for nothing.

Any Scot's board members made enquiries about this?

I think the key part here is this, Si:

I believe I got something similar when I started my course (back in the day). Maybe not "free money", but if you're making an outlay anyway, it sure can help get started :)

Just thought I'd resurrect this - it's still going, I got my forms and posted them off today.

If you earn £18000 you get £100 towards any course that's IT related, as long as you pay a tenner yourself, ie; course costs £200, you pay £100 and use your ILA for the other 100 . Less than 100, eg £80, you pay a tenner and you can use your ILA to pay the other £70

If you earn less than 18k, you get 200 quid allowance which will nearly cover a MOUS course in pitman or somewhere like that I think.

    Here's the site:

    http://www.ilascotland.org.uk/ILA+Homepage.htm

    Here's the number:

    0808 100 1090

All they ask on the phone is name, address, DOB, phone number - nothing too strenuous!

Definitely suggest going for it if you live in Scotland, you mightn't end up using it but no harm to have it in case you need it.

ok, not ripping on Scotland or anything because I think they are a great country too. But this make no sense to me. Why does the one with the lower pay scale get less? Most people that are on a lower payscale has less education or training in that field. Why aren't they giving them more or atleast equal so they can be trained for higher education? :(

    Hi Mitzs

No, if you earn less you get £200, if you earn more than £18k you only get £100.

I think it is great that scotland is taking care of their own. Maybe you should write a letter to your congress man telling them you would like to see the same thing in your country. Sorry, forgot you don't have congress over there. House of lords maybe? Or would it be your Minster? Hell, send an email to the queen. :biggrin

seriously tho, I don't really know why they're doing it - suppose there's not much industry in scotland and training folk up in IT makes it seem attractive to foreign companies, something similar to what Ireland done in the 90's, well trained population desparate for decent jobs.

Companies picked ireland cos of this and the tax breaks they got. Fairly short term strategy in the long run as these tax breaks are ending now and companies are packing up and heading off to eastern europe where costs are low and the work force have low expectations wage-wise and would be grateful to be working in IT rather than factories/farms (again similar to ireland in the late 80's, early 90's).

how this all ties in IT certs i have no idea!

On the upside for yourself tho, you can probably do something like CCP thru open university for alot cheaper than i could! swings and roundabouts

I don't think the Scots could afford it.

That's what you get for being on the winning side. This freebie handout system usually happens to pacify the 'conquered' population. If it's any consolation, it's happening in Australia too with the Aboriginal population.
