    Hello my friends

I prepare for MCSA 2012. And try to make Hyper-V Lab.

I install Server 2012R2, install also Hyper-V manager with two virtual machines: Server 2012R2 and Win8.1.
    I make Internal network switch:
    IPv4: 192.168.1.1
    Subnet: 255.255.225.0
    DNS: 192.168.1.2

    VM server2012:
    IPv4:192.168.1.5
    Default Gateway:192.168.1.1
    Dns: 192.168.1.2

    VM Win8.1
    IPv4: 192.168.1.10
    Default Gateway:192.168.1.1
    Dns: 192.168.1.2

and not working. Can't connect Win 8.1 to my domain, also can't ping.
    What is wrong???

    Thank you

So first thing first, you say you're running DNS at 192.168.1.2, what's actually running that DNS?

I ask because you have your Windows 2012 server on 192.168.1.5 and I am assuming that this is supposed to be your domain controller, if that's the case then your DNS should be configured as 192.168.1.5 because you should be running AD integrated DNS and that's where the namespace will be searchable from.

My suggestion here would be first to understand what exactly is required to setup a domain controller and ensuring you have all of that configured correctly, secondly I would probably suggest running your lab in an entirely different address space so that you don't have home traffic on your lab network segment, this allows you to play in both environments ensuring that neither one interacts and breaks the other.

Lastly I would suggest you document exactly what it is you're trying to do, document your IP addressing requirements and how each product is supposed to interact, once you have it documented it actually makes it easier to troubleshoot in the event you miss a step.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask.

    Thank you for your advice

The DNS now is 192.168.1.5 and I join the win 8.1 to server 2012r2.
Now I can disable accounts, reset passwords....
    I can now ping server 2012 from Win8.1, but can't ping win8.1 from server2012, also I can't ping 192.168.1.1-the internal network switch.

    Thanks again

On the Windows 8 machine check the domain firewall policy, you will probably find that the default policy is that the firewall is enabled, thereby it's forcing the ICMP packets to be dropped.

You have two options, disable the firewall locally on the machine or look at setting up a machine group policy to disable the firewall across the domain (good skills to creating and applying GPOs).

With regards to the default gateway, I would probably try a tracert to the gateway and see if it get's there (no reason I can think of that it wouldn't but if you have setup a switch somewhere and it's misconfigured you never know.

Thanks, late night I found the problem with pinging, File and Printing Sharing (Echo request- ICMPv4-in) And now it's ok to ping.
On CBT Nuggets videos it was very easy when I watched, but in the real world :( it's frustrating.

If I have another questions can I ask help from you.

    Many thanks SimonD.
