Hello!

I have done a fair few certificates over the years and try my best to keep upto date. Anyone that does take certificates regularly know that alot of time sweat and money goes into passing them. It is not easy.

What is often fustrating to me is taking a certificate to find out that its being replaced by a newer technology/cert. Obviously that would be the case since technology is constantly moving forward.

Do you think its worth keeping up with the industry? Do the benefits outweight the efforts?

I believe it is worth keeping up with. It helps maintain job security, helps obtain jobs and raises, and increases personal knowledge and confidence. Just because a certification has expired or technology is outdated, it doesn't mean your company isn't currently using that technology. For instance, a "retired/legacy" certification in Server 2008 will still hold weight to an employer who is leveraging 2008 technology!

 

Waste of time and money in my mind.

Being good at your job maintains job security.

Maintaining certifications, generally does not demonstrate personal growth.
