I recently got a computer from my in-laws and found it riddled with malware including the above program. I have tried getting into the registry to delete it but I couldn't find them where they said they where.

BTW it's running Windows Me

Or would it be better to just wipe the HDD and install something else.

When you lose confidence that your system is secure, the only way to restore that confidence is to nuke it and reinstall from scratch.

Windows ME? Oi.

The program you've described is another Smitfraud variant (I get about three of these a week). Here's a removal tool that you should run in Safe Mode:

Yeah, 'cuz XP SP3 is gonna run like a hot damn on a P200 w/128 MB of RAM. (Which is the typical hardware specs of a system running ME.)

Put that up to 233MHz and it almost gets to the minimum spec.

If its just for testing then why not? Would rather have slow XP than 'crash every 5 seconds even when you dont do anything' ME.

Pffft. Wipe the HD, install Windows 98, and keep it disconnected from the Web.

be very careful with what you do. people who have run windows ME for a while tend to be very attached to it, especially if they odn't know much about ocmputers. god knows why.

although XP DID keep a fair few of the more useful / user friendly features. what specs exactly are the computer? I've seen XP SP2 running pretty well (no seriously) on an AMD K6-500 with 512MB of ram

but yeah.. unless malwareBytes Anti-Malware has a version that runs on ME (and it might, just cant go to the website to check from here) you'll probably need to format anyway. Get a backup of everything!
