Changes in Exam PW0-100 - Fall 2006

This is a MINOR UPGRADE to the exam. You will need to know the new standard IEEE/Wi-Fi Alliance terminology listed on the link in the original post. Please read this list and print it out to properly prepare for the exam.

Some of my thoughts:

The exam is being updated to reflect the industry standard naming conventions that are now being used by the IEEE.


The CWNA exam objectives have been updated to reflect these changes. Always be sure to read and fully comprehend all of the CWNA exam objectives before taking the exam.


Terminology Changes:

Acronyms and terminology were changed to align the pw0-100 exam and exam objectives with the IEEE standard (as amended) and the terminology standardized by the Wi-Fi Alliance. All of the acronyms and terminology that was changed on the exam is documented in the new CWNP Exam Terms document which is freely available at cwnp.com. Some of the more often used terms that were changed include:

802.3-2005, Clause 33 PoE - formerly 802.3af PoE
Dynamic Rate Switching - formerly Dynamic Rate Shifting
802.11 standard (as amended) - formerly listed as "802.11-1999 (R2003) standard" and ratified amendments such as "802.11a", "802.11b", "802.11e", and "802.11i".
HR-DSSS - formerly 802.11b
ERP-OFDM - formerly 802.11g
OFDM - formerly 802.11a

These terminology changes will be very important for studying for the exam. For example, there will no longer be questions referencing the 802.11b, 802.11g or any of the 802.11 amendments. Instead many questions will refer to the "802.11 standard (as amended)". As a test candidate, you will still need to fully understand all the technologies that the amendments outline. For example, you will need to understand HR-DSSS which was the spread spectrum technology defined by the 802.11b amendment.

As stated earlier: Always be sure to read and fully comprehend all of the CWNA exam objectives before taking the exam.
