About RSS
An RSS Feed allows users, after downloading news aggregator software
- which is usually free or very inexpensive - to get content as soon
as it's updated. You don't have to check a Web page over and over to
see if it has new content; as soon as it does a message pops up on
your desktop and the Web page comes to you.
The RSS acronym has a number of meanings, but it has come to be
aptly defined as Really Simple Syndication. According to Chris
Pirillo, who runs Lockergnome's RSS Resource (a site devoted to all
things RSS), it is an XML specification used to describe how to
display content (also known as a feed) in a piece of software called
a news aggregator. Content providers write their feed according to
this RSS specification and people can subscribe to the feed using
the news aggregation software. News aggregators (See sidebar) come
in a variety of styles including desktop clients, Web-based
services, and even one that works inside Microsoft Outlook.
Each news aggregator works a little differently, but they all
provide a way to subscribe to a content source, then organize and
view feeds (subscriptions). Instead of seeing a whole article, you
view just a headline and a summary, which allows you to quickly scan
the information and then click through to the source Web site to
read the entire article of only specific items you want. After you
subscribe to a feed, you can receive site updates as often as every
15 minutes or at whatever time interval you choose. A list of the
more common RSS aggregators is given below.

You can now get live CertForums.co.uk data straight to your
desktop with Serence's Klipfolio. If your one of those members thats
in and out of CertForums all day why not add klipfolio to your
desktop and get the latest data without having to launch an internet
browser.
So how do I get it, I here you say, well first of all you'll need to
download and install Serence's Klipfolio.
Klipfolio Download
Once installed launch the program and you will find two or three
small windows called "klip's" bringing you data from other websites
around the globe. You can leave the original klip's in Klipfolio or
remove them, to remove them simply right click on the klip windows
and select "Delete Klip" For more help on using klip go to serence
klipfolio user guide.
Once the installed klips are removed you will be left with the
Klipfolio frame into which you can add any number of klips form
serence's klipfarm, to add CertForums klip you will find the
download at the klipfarm or you can download the klip directly from
Serence's website.
Download CertForums Klip
Once CertForums klip is added, after a small update you will recieve
the 10 latest posts direct from the forums. You can clear the data
by right clicking in the klip and selecting "Delete all Items". All
you need to do now is sit back and klipfolio will check CertForums
for new data every 10 minutes. You can ask klipfolio to notify you
when new posts are made by using the "Alert me when new items are
added" in the klip setup.
One of the better features of klipfolio is that once minimized the
only thing on display is the system tray icon and when used in
combination with the "Alert me when new items are added" option, the
icon will shimmer to notify you of new items. |
