Split Horizon: how do you disable it ?

Just wondering. Because I haven't yet come across any configs you can use to either to disable split horizon or enable it. I'd like to know because there are a couple of tests I want to carry out on my lab.

If I remember correctly, if you want to disable split horizon on an interface, type no ip split-horizon in interface configuration mode. To enable it again, type ip split-horizon in interface configuration mode.

But why would you want to?

Hi NetEyeBall,

Basically, I was reading something about distance vector protocols and decided it would be fun to trigger a routing loop on a lab with a sort of "closed" topology and see how rip and igrp deal with it.

I haven't had the time to have a proper go of it yet, but the general plan is to put the protocols in and disable split horizon. After that, I plan to shutdown the interfaces on one of the participating routers and hopefully get to see route poisoning and hold-down timers in action.

Well, that's the plan, anyway.
