Deadline for 'Certified for Life' Candidates Dec 31st

IT professionals who were certified in 2010 or earlier in CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+ or CompTIA Security+ have until the end of 2012 to enroll in the CompTIA Continuing Education program.

Those certified in 2010 or earlier are considered "certified for life," but these individuals can enroll in the CompTIA Continuing Education Program to show they are versed in the latest skills and technologies.

Can't believe they are still pursuing this BS, when are CompTIA going to 'show' they can keep their word over time ? They won't get another dime from me, I don't have to prove anything to them. Bunch of worthless shills.

I only passed in May this year so I still have the 3 years worth but I don't think I will be renewing my A+ as I am looking at other certs as more priority.

" It is optional unless mandated by an employer. For example, enrollment is required for those using a CompTIA certification for compliance with the Department of Defense 8570 IA Directive."

Most employers won't care, so why should we?

To be honest, I don't live or work in the US or work for any US Government department. The DoD directives don't apply to me :)

Doesn't mean much to anyone outside of the US as far as I can see. My A+ is as old as the hills anyway.

Remember that if you get any cert higher then A+ from them. Like network + it renews your A+ as long as its still valid when you pass.

Got Linux+, Security+, Project+, Server+, Network+, what 'higher' cert can I take to 'renew' them ? Its a bonkers system that makes no sense, apart to the CompTIA bean counters.

Comptia website has the info. I know security + will renew A+ network + linux + and security + but I don't know about the others.

I'd love to know how many people have opted in. Does anyone know if CompTIA exams are highly thought of in the U.S? I really enjoyed studying for Network+ and Security+ but in terms of career development, they have done absolutely nothing for me. Never seen a job advert with them listed as a desirable never mind a requirement. All they were for me was a really useful starting point for CCENT and CEH.

Hi all. I have A+ and network + before dec 31st 2010. What is this continuing education program about? If i enroll in that program, do i have to re take a exam? Thanks.

i was going to take the Network + exam but then i realised that there wasn't much point. Employers would rather have a CCNA or any specialised certs. From my POV (and correct me if i am wrong) its too generic to be of any real use outside of explaining the underlining network technologies.
