    Hi guys,

    I'm new here.

I was hoping to get some advice! I'm basically looking to get into the IT industry. I've graduated in Psychology with a 2:1 last year but have found that it's not really working out for me in this field. IT however, has been a passion of mine for a long time and I have plenty of personal experience, from building computers to troubleshooting hardware and software problems. I am able to build a computer from parts, install OSs, configure BIOS, install drivers and much more. I've been helping out friends and family with IT related problems for many years and find it quite enjoyable. However, I have 0 qualifications in this area and am unsure on where to start.

I've been looking at some apprenticeships in the UK, which seem quite appealing and am considering applying.

I've also been looking at some of the certifications in this field such as CompTIA A+ and considered self-studying for these.

At the moment this is all very IT support based which is what I am currently interested in. However, in the future I want to gain some knowledge and experience in coding, programming and development and perhaps specialise in that.

Any advice for my situation is much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

    Anyone?

Where should I start if I want to get a job in IT support and what are the minimum/main qualifications/certifications required?

    Hi rocdamike,

Thanks a lot for your reply. This is some great info and advice! However, I notice that SimonD's thread is over 1 year old. Are the certifications mentioned in that post still currently applicable or has the field changed since then?
