Well the spooler is like a buffer, so if your printer memory runs out, the documents are queued up in the spooler. This is so that you can continue working on other things, rather than facing the document printing window.

My guess is that you can still print even though the spooler service is stopped, because you haven't yet tried to print a large enough print job that exceeds the printer memory.

In a nutshell you are printing directly to the printer device.

Warnings (yellow) or errors (red) in the system or application log.

If there are any it might give another clue as to what the issue is.

Another option could be a repair install of the operating system here. Do you have a copy of Vista to hand?

I do have a copy of vista yes, by doing a repair of windows would i lose any files or programs?
Im looking through the system log now...
There are a few errors in Http Event
A few errors in windows update client.
5 warnings in Tcpip
A warning in time-service
A warning in user32.

Is any of that anything to worry about?

No you wont lose any files or programs but perhaps backup any important files before you do this. If you boot from the Vista disk you will get the option to the repair the computer.

After that perhaps install service pack 2?
