Replacing noisy case fan

Guys, I've got a noisy case fan on the home desktop.

Couple of questions, the one I'm thinking of getting isn't temp controlled, the original one is, is that too much of a problem ?

How would i get the exact size of the existing case fan ? measure it, or is it written somewhere like the mobo manual or on the fan ?

You can replace an temp controlled fan with a normal one no problem, it just won't change fan speeds if teh temp rises. A non-temp control fan tends to spin at a set rev.
The Akasa fan is ok but i would check out www.quietpc.co.uk for more fans as they will list the noise levels and speeds etc of the fans. Normally the faster the fan the noiser it is and also the smaller the fan the faster it spins.
As for size, just measure it across the width. Most fans are, 60, 80, 90, 120, 140 or 200mm in size (i have 120mm in mine which spin slower and tend to be quieter)

 

I have two of those in my system they are quiet but you can get ones which are more quiet.

To measure the fan size get a ruler and put it diagnally from furthest screw hole to furthest screw hole.

 

if it has a 3 pin connector just plug it into the mobo and it should be monitored in the bios and in any software you got running (although it has to have the 3rd yellow wire, as this is for rpm monitoring some only have the red and black power and ground wires). it doesn't actually say if its 3 or 4 pin or untailed

most case fans are 80mm but best just to measure it.
