    Hello Brothers,

What do you all think about Pre/Post sale engineer roles.

A recruiter comtacted me I have good experience for it.

Does anyone work in any pre sales engineering roles and also are pre sales just sales or a hybrid or is it a soliution architecture role.

Also these positions pay **** loads is it cuz of commision.

    Cheers,

These roles require a decent understanding of the product, understanding how you should be architecting it and ensuring that you can also potentially add further value to the solution by adding value add services from your company (networking audits, security audits where required etc).

It also requires a heavy dose of political correctness, you can't bad mouth the client or your consultancy at all, even if they are doing the wrong thing.

You will be expected to be visiting customer sites and has a potential for travel (I know you're in Oz so may be reduced some but still bear it in mind).

Don't take it the wrong way but think long and hard as to whether you can work in this kind of enviornment because not everyone can, it can be cut throat and frustrating when you have spent weeks working on something only for it not to be taken up by the customer.

Lastly you're expected to be the font of all knowledge, it will require a lot of hardwork and upskilling to understand all the connecting components.

I had a face to face interview with a recruiter for this kind of role.

I have a solid background on the server and the applications that the company is selling and it was with a non technical recruiter. I think the interview went OK he said I have other clients to interview as well and will know by Tuesday if he is going to forward my cv to his client (I think i was the first one he interviewed for this role)

To tell you the trurth i am a good match, lets see :)

Good luck. Pre sales isn't for everyone but you can only try, I'm sure they will tell you if you fit the bill or not :)

Haven't done that for a couple of years now, been pre sales a year or so and it's great.

Yeah it's all good :) That's a similar route to how I got here, one thing I'll say is being on the sales side of the fence is rather different to the services/consulting side. They actually don't mind you spending money on things ;)
